What is balloon sculpting?
This seems like an easy question for you but in actual fact, there are “histories” behind balloon sculpting.
Balloon sculpting or balloon twisting is taking a long balloon also known as 260s balloon to form and twist it into a balloon sculpture. People who create balloon animals and other balloon sculptures are called balloon artist or balloonist.
Origins of balloon modelling
The origins of balloon modelling are unknown. The 1975 book by “Jolly the Clown” Petri credits “Herman Bonnert from Pennsylvania at a magician’s convention in 1939” as being the first balloontwister. Val Andrews, in Manual of Balloon Modeling, Vol. 1, An Encyclopedic Series, credits H.J. Bonnert of Scranton, Pennsylvania as being the “daddy of them all.” Jim Church III states, “Frank Zacone from Youngstown, Ohio was doing a balloon act during the 1940s and had been doing the act for some time.”Another candidate for first balloon twister is Henry Maar. But actually this post is not talking about the histories of balloon sculpting, is my memories of balloon sculpting when i was little.
When I was little
When i was young, balloon sculpting was already extremely popular. I remembered vividly when i was at my cousin’s birthday party, all the children swarmed around the balloon artist, trying their very best to get their favourite balloon dog, balloon sword, balloon gun and balloon flower. I asked for a balloon horse because at that time i was thinking about my chinese zodiac is Horse. The balloon artist rejected me as he do not know how to do so i request for a balloon dog instead. It look something like this.
I was delighted even though is not a balloon horse but looking at this makes me happy at that time.
A Balloon Artist Now
Now that i am a balloon artist, i cannot forget how the clown/balloon artist entertained the guest in my cousin house and i am here, entertaining the kids now and future parties. I was inspired by the balloon artist 20 years ago 🙂 I get to twist different kinds of sculptures and shapes for the kids, like sword, gun, heart shape, giraffe, rabbits, car, aeroplane and even cartoon characters. To see the children smile after receiving their favourite balloon sculpture, is my satisfaction.
People inspire me, I inspires people!
Because many balloon artists in my life inspired me throughout my journey in balloon industry, i decided to inspire others by having balloon workshops to schools, RCs, CCs and private birthday party!
